RAMAIAH ADVANCED TESTING LAB BECOMES THE FIRST ACCREDITED LAB TO DISSECT AND DESTROY ABSURD CLAIMS OF “PLASTIC RICE, PLASTIC SUGAR & PLASTIC EGGS” THROUGH A LIVE, PRACTICAL CHEMISTRY REALITY SHOW BASED ON SOLID, PROVEN SCIENTIFIC TESTING METHODOLOGIES
Though claims of “plastic rice” being available in African countries have been existing since a few years and authorities in these countries have immediately issued statements to the contrary, in recent times, some residents in a few regions in India have reported the presence of “plastic rice”, “plastic sugar” and “plastic eggs”. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are states where reports of these occurrences have surfaced creating a lot of anxiety and doubt, besides putting the lives of millions of consumers and farmers dependent on these items as part of their staple diet/income at huge risk of malnutrition/economic ruin.
Though concerned authorities from the Food and Supplies Department have repeatedly issued statements assuring the citizens that all these claims are unfounded to allay their fears, yet the doubt and concern lurks in their minds as no scientific bases or lab tests could be provided as conclusive and convincing evidence.
Our team of scientists from Ramaiah Advanced Testing Laboratory were invited by many prominent TV channels to participate in informative discussions on the truths about the claims of adulteration with “plastic rice, sugar & eggs” to dispel doubts. Our laboratory also went a step further in providing simple and conclusive tests for the first time ever on live television using the same samples that consumers brought forward in real time claiming them to be “plastic”.
The test kits together with required glassware and apparatus were carried to the recording studio which was converted into a mini lab. Samples of “plastic rice, plastic sugar, plastic egg” were procured from the same consumers and locations where complaints were registered with the local authority. The program was telecast live during prime time and millions of viewers were given an opportunity to discern the truth. The falsified and dramatic rumor of “plastic” invading the palates, plates and diets of petrified consumers was consigned to the dustbin of “fake news”.
Ramaiah Institutions have always been in the forefront of public service, scientific thought and rational thinking irrespective of cost or superficial considerations, especially where it involves national interest and the lives and livelihoods of common citizens and farmers.
